How do I set up and start my Cordless Pressure Washer

Created by Chris McHale, Modified on Fri, 26 Jun at 2:43 PM by Chris McHale

Quick Answer

To set up your cordless pressure washer, connect the water inlet hose, high-pressure hose, spray gun and lance, then insert the fully charged battery. Before switching the machine on, purge any trapped air by holding the trigger until water flows smoothly. Once the water supply is established, switch on the pressure washer and begin cleaning.

Tip: Purging the system before starting helps prevent airlocks and ensures consistent water pressure.

Before You Start

Before using your cordless pressure washer, make sure:

  • The battery is fully charged and correctly fitted
  • All hoses and accessories are securely connected
  • The water source is clean and turned on
  • You are wearing suitable PPE, including eye protection and non-slip footwear

Important: Never operate the pressure washer without a water supply, as this may damage the pump.

How to Set Up Your Cordless Pressure Washer

Follow these steps before switching on the machine.

1. Connect the water inlet hose

Attach the hose connector (male inlet connector) to the pressure washer's water inlet.

The inlet is usually located on the front of the machine, although this may vary by model. Refer to your user manual if required.

2. Connect the high-pressure hose

Attach the high-pressure hose to your pressure washer.

Depending on the model, the hose may connect:

  • Directly to the outlet on the machine
  • To the integrated hose reel

Ensure the connection is fully secured before use.

Fit the required accessories, such as:

  • Spray gun
  • Spray lance
  • Nozzle
  • Patio cleaner (if required)

Most accessories use a push-and-twist (bayonet) connection.

Once assembled, connect the high-pressure hose to the spray gun.

How to Remove Air from the System

Before switching the pressure washer on, purge any trapped air from the pump.

1. Keep the pressure washer switched off

Do not press the power switch yet.

2. Pull the trigger

Point the spray gun in a safe direction and squeeze the trigger.

Allow water to flow until it runs smoothly without spluttering.

3. Switch on the pressure washer

Once the water flow is steady, switch on the pressure washer.

The machine is now ready for use.

Important: Purging the system before starting helps remove trapped air and can improve water pressure.

Important Operating Tips

  • Always use a fully charged battery
  • Ensure all hose connections are secure before switching on
  • Never run the pressure washer without a water supply
  • Purge trapped air before every use
  • Disconnect the battery before carrying out maintenance or changing accessories

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my cordless pressure washer build pressure?

Air trapped inside the pump is a common cause. With the machine switched off, hold the trigger until water flows smoothly, then switch the pressure washer on.

Do I need to purge the system before every use?

Yes. Purging the system helps remove trapped air and ensures consistent water pressure.

Can I switch the pressure washer on before connecting the water supply?

No. Always connect the water supply and ensure water is flowing before switching the pressure washer on.

How do I know if the battery is fitted correctly?

The battery should slide fully into place and lock with a distinct click.
