My wheel keeps falling off my Electric Lawnmower

Created by Chris McHale, Modified on Thu, 11 Jun at 1:22 PM by Chris McHale

This article explains common causes and basic fixes if a wheel keeps coming loose or falling off your electric lawnmower.

⚠️ Safety Notice

Ensure the lawnmower is switched off and disconnected from the power supply before carrying out any checks or repairs.

Why This Happens

Wheels can come loose due to vibration during use, which may cause axle fixing components such as the washer and circlip to loosen or detach.

In some cases, these parts may not have been fully secured during assembly. You may also hear rattling inside the wheel assembly.

How to Fix the Issue (Standard Models – 34cm and Above)

  1. Remove the wheel trim (hub cap).
  2. Locate the flat washer and circlip (these may be loose inside the wheel).
  3. Check that the metal bearing is correctly seated inside the wheel.
  4. Refit the wheel onto the axle.
  5. Reinstall the flat washer followed by the circlip. Ensure both are fitted tightly against the wheel bearing.

  1. Reattach the wheel trim (hub cap).

Smaller Models (e.g. 32cm)

  • Follow the same general process as above.
  • Instead of a washer and circlip, these models use a locking ring to secure the wheel.
  • Some models do not use separate bearings, as they are built into the wheel itself.

If Parts Are Missing

If any axle-fixing parts (washer, circlip, locking ring, or wheel bearings) are missing, please contact Our Technical Support Team. Replacement parts may be provided where applicable.

Alternative Fix: Star Washers

If the issue continues, Our Technical Support Team may recommend or supply star washers, which help improve wheel retention on the axle. These may be used in addition to, or instead of, the existing fixing components.

✔️ Summary

  • Wheels may loosen due to vibration
  • Check washer, circlip, or locking ring
  • Ensure bearings are correctly seated
